The scanner is powered by USB, so I don't have to hunt for another outlet and it's pretty much plug and play. The one touch scanning is a great feature since once the unit is on I can insert a new page without having to click or press any buttons between sheets. The black and white settings and OCR text recognition work great on receipts and documents and the quality of the color scans isn't bad either. The only thing you wouldn't be able to scan versus a flatbed would be book pages or thicker media. You should be able to get business cards and heavy card stock through it though. The software that came with it is also impressive. It will automatically "clean up" your images, straighten AND crop them! My all-in-one printer/scanner combo doesn't even do that. If you already have software to work with and you want a portable scanner and don't need customer support this product will work for you just fine.First I want to say that I have been using computers my whole life and have excellent tech skills. This Visioneer drivers and software (excluding the included Nuance software) is extremely difficult to use and figure out. The Visioneer software has almost no information included that explains how to use it and the drives auto-scan documents in a bad resolution in a default directory. Never found out how to change that. I did find a way to open the software through Window's "Devices and Printers" and manually scan them in the resolution I want but it closes after every scan and it is somewhat time consuming to reopen it each time. This is the smallest and easiest to set up color scanner I've found on the market. It easily connected to my laptop via the USB adapter provided. It has an easy adjuster on the feed bar to control my documents as they go through the scanner - everything from my expense reports to little tiny receipts. And the scanning process is quick - no long waiting time for it to process on to your laptop. I like the fact that it has such a slim design that I can take it with me when I travel. I recently went to a trade show and had to scan in numerous client cards and used this scanner. It was fast and simple. The fact that you only need the USB cord makes it extra mobile. I plan on taking it with me every time I travel. |
